2010 The Best of YouTube

In The Best of YouTube we were exploring the paradox of YouTube and our contemporary participative (video) culture. Why are the most popular videos of such incredible banality and sensationalism? How can this same medium be the powerful political tool that fuels revolutions against totalitarian systems?

In four workshops of four to ten days, we devised a performance which used multimedia additions such as Skype, YouTube, live cameras and livestream as virtual extensions to the here and now of theatre‘s space and time. We invited virtual audiences and connected to performers from anywhere in the world. We replayed events that had already happened and reduced an action happening in real time and place to a frame and put it simultaneously back into the context of images.

You are here, capturing your experience, sharing it, spreading it, whatever - where was I - ah, yes, our lifestyle has drastic effects on the environment and we really need to think of how we deal with mental pollution - what? the crisis? of course it affects aesthetic consumerism, bloody hell, we‘ll just have to deal with more ugliness in the coming years! Incents and fire, drizzle on my skin and always this blood red lipstick... two monkeys? what the fuck... I‘m totally lost here!
